As previously reported here on Correct Opinion, Woody Allen’s next film, Vicky Christina Barcelona (which will premiere in Cannes this month) is a serious portrayal of love and betrayal, with long dull takes, unappealing locations and very average looking actors. A bit Mike Leigh.

I’m not sure which I admire more - the ridiculously good looking cast (hellooo Scar Jo, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Rebecca Hall and Chris Messina!) or the fact that the trailer-makers clearly realised that silly things such as dialogue and plot indications aren’t in the least bit necessary. Just show lots of good looking people having sex in an sun-drenched European sitting, make one of them man-of-the-moment hunk-of-rugged-flesh Bardem, let two of the good looking girls kiss, add a single dramatic gun shot, point the camera and go.
Genius.

This still won’t get me to watch a Woody Allen movie. It’s been years and I don’t care that he married her, but I still can’t condone sexual predators just because they make good movies.
It just skeeves me out.
